Robin MacLachlan

Robin MacLachlan is a Vice President at Summa Strategies and a Director at Abacus Data. With more than a decade of experience in public affairs, he provides business and non-profit sector leaders with strategic counsel and advocacy to help them achieve their objectives.

Robin thrives on solving complex challenges. He designs advocacy and public engagement campaigns based on the premise that where there is will, there is a way forward – the key is activating and mobilizing the will.

Robin built an understanding of communications, stakeholder engagement and the legislative process as a political staffer to two Members of Parliament. During his time in the political trenches, Robin worked both at the local level as a Constituency Assistant and on Parliament Hill as a Legislative and Communications Assistant.

In addition to his parliamentary experience, he has worked extensively with civil society and the non-profit sector, developing effective advocacy campaigns for the Rideau Institute on International Affairs. His career path through politics, civil society and the private sector has taught him how policy is influenced from inside and outside of parliament.

Since joining Summa Strategies in 2009, Robin has worked with businesses, industry associations and non-profit organizations covering a broad range of sectors, including energy transportation, technology, environmental policy, financial institutions, health, sports, immigration and public safety.

Robin is a regular panelist on CBC’s Power & Politics and a political commentator for CPAC and the Hill Times. He has provided strategic communications advice and training to political leaders at all levels of government and provides media and public speaking training to his Summa clients.

Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, out of the office Robin can be found playing football, softball or telling tall tales of his rugby career while cheering on the Ottawa Irish Rugby Club. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of Rugby Ontario.

Robin holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) degree in Political Science from McGill University and is proficient in both official languages.
