Gord Garner is the executive director of the Community Addictions Peer Support Association and the chair of the annual Recovery Day Ottawa event. He is a national public speaker and trainer on peer support and addictions recovery. He is living well with a substance use disorder diagnosis and is a retired Certified Canadian Addiction Counsellor.
Gord is dedicated to removing barriers to enable policy, academic and research experts, and people with lived and living experience of substance use disorders to take evidence-based actions to improve the lives of Canadians who use substances. He supports the four pillars of the Canadian Drugs and Substances Strategy — prevention, harm reduction, treatment and enforcement — while advocating for better cohesion among participants delivering the strategy.
All of the work Gord does is informed by his 38 years of active addiction and by the individuals who helped him.
