David Hammond is a professor in the School of Public Health and Health Systems at the University of Waterloo. His research focuses on tobacco, food and cannabis policy in relation to health, public education, product standards, advertising and marketing, and consumer behaviour.
David leads the International Cannabis Policy Study, which is evaluating the impact of cannabis legalization in Canada and the United States. His research has been recognized by awards from Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Medical Association, the Royal Statistical Society of Canada and the World Health Organization.
David also serves as an expert witness in court cases, primarily on behalf of governments defending health regulations from industry legal challenges.
